In a recent episode of the Perspektives With Bank podcast, 21 Savage shared insights into his perspective on the ongoing feud between Drake and Kendrick Lamar. He expressed that while Drake came out of this lyrical altercation largely unscathed, he did caution the Toronto rapper against diving deeper into the conflict.
Savage explained that he advised Drake to refrain from engaging in the feud, telling him, “not to do all that shit” and to “leave that shit alone.” However, he acknowledged that Drake felt challenged lyrically and chose to respond. This revelation came in the context of their discussions about the feud, which escalated after Kendrick Lamar’s initial diss on the track “Like That,” a collaboration with Metro Boomin and Future.
During their conversation, 21 Savage cautioned Drake about entering a battle he believed was unwinnable. He articulated that in some instances, even if you achieve a perceived victory, it may not equate to actual success. “You finna go into a battle that you can’t win. There’s no way you can win,” he said, highlighting the complexities of competition in the music industry. The rapper pointed out that both artists produced strong tracks during the feud, but he questioned the notion of winning at the top level: “Where does winning put you? You can’t go Number One-Point-One. So how the fuck could you win, anyway?”
The prevailing sentiment from this discussion suggested that while many viewed Lamar as the winner of the conflict—largely due to the acclaim of his track “Not Like Us”—21 Savage himself was indifferent to the outcome. When pressed about whether he thought Drake “took a hit” in the feud, Savage did not believe that was the case. He noted that Drake remains one of the most-streamed artists globally. Instead, he suggested that the perception of a loss may stem from “an internet hit,” highlighting the interplay between social media perception and actual streaming success.
On a separate note, 21 Savage also took the opportunity to promote his latest album, What Happened to the Streets?, which was released on December 12. This marks his fourth album and follows his previous project, American Dream. The new LP features collaborations with prominent artists such as Latto, GloRilla, G Herbo, Lil Baby, and, of course, Drake.
