China’s Ministry of Commerce has launched an anti-discrimination investigation targeting United States measures regarding the integrated circuit industry. This announcement comes just a day before a new round of trade talks between the two nations set to take place in Spain.
The ministry highlighted that over recent years, the US has implemented a range of restrictions on China in the integrated circuit sector, utilizing tools such as Section 301 investigations and various export control measures. These actions are characterized by the ministry as “protectionist,” suggesting they are designed to stifle China’s progress in high-tech industries, specifically areas such as advanced computing chips and artificial intelligence.
Officials in Beijing argue that these US policies exhibit discriminatory practices aimed at curtailing China’s technological advancements, thus raising tensions in the ongoing trade relationship.
