The latest updates regarding the American Express Platinum Card indicate a significant overhaul in its benefits, accompanied by a notable increase in the annual fee. The fee has risen from $695 to $895, effective immediately for new cardholders and starting January 2, 2026, for existing members. This move appears to align with Amex’s objective of enhancing value for its cardholders, particularly those who travel frequently.

Among the enhancements, cardholders can now enjoy up to $300 in statement credits for hotel bookings made through the Fine Hotels + Resorts and The Hotel Collection, which must be paid using the Platinum Card. This benefit has seen an increase from the previous $200 offer. Additionally, travelers can earn 5x rewards points when booking prepaid hotel reservations or flights via American Express Travel, with a cap of $500,000 per calendar year for flights.

The revamped card continues to provide exclusive access to over 1,550 lounges across more than 500 airports around the world, part of the Global Lounge Collection. Notable lounges across various airports include the Centurion Lounge in Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport, as well as several others.

Furthermore, the Platinum Card introduces a range of benefits targeting rideshare and travel expenses. Cardholders are eligible for a total of up to $120 in statement credits for an UberOne membership, alongside $200 in Uber Cash annually, granted monthly with an added bonus in December. An additional $209 can be claimed for a CLEAR+ membership, which utilizes biometric technology to expedite airport security processes. There is also a provision for up to $200 in statement credits for airline baggage fees and additional charges, requiring the cardholder to select one qualifying airline.

In terms of hotel benefits, stays of at least two nights booked through Amex’s hotel collections offer perks such as room upgrades and resort credit for on-site amenities. A selection of hotels across Arizona, including renowned destinations like the Arizona Biltmore and Fairmont Scottsdale Princess, have been included in the program, expanding options for cardholders looking to maximize their travel experiences.

Travelers contemplating whether the American Express Platinum Card aligns with their needs may find these revitalized features offer considerable advantages, balancing increased fees with enhanced travel-related perks. As American Express continually seeks to tailor its offerings, prospective cardholders should weigh the benefits against costs, particularly if they frequent travel engagements.
