Brazil Ministry of Agriculture uses blockchain in new digital certificate

The Agriculture Ministry of Brazil has unveiled a transformative digital certificate designed to boost the country’s agribusiness sector through enhanced transparency, sustainability, and global competitiveness. This initiative introduces the digital certificate of agriculture, commonly referred to as the VMG certificate, which utilizes cutting-edge blockchain technology.

According to government sources, the new digital tool aims to significantly elevate transparency within the agribusiness sector while simultaneously increasing Brazil’s competitiveness on the international stage. By streamlining certification processes, the VMG certificate allows farmers to operate more cost-effectively while adhering to the sustainability standards demanded by the global market.

This digital innovation exemplifies Brazil’s commitment to achieving a balance between economic growth and environmental preservation. The VMG certificate harnesses the unique attributes of blockchain technology, enabling an immutable record of agricultural practices. This capability empowers farmers to substantiate their sustainability claims, an increasingly critical requirement among global consumers who seek transparency regarding food sources and production methods.

Farmers utilizing the VMG certificate benefit from advanced digital tools, including artificial intelligence, which provides real-time agricultural insights such as optimal planting times and climate-related data. Upon harvest, a comprehensive digital record of each crop is generated, encapsulating its entire journey. This detailed documentation not only strengthens the credibility of the Brazilian grain market but also serves as a significant asset in global trade negotiations.

Furthermore, the anonymized data generated by the VMG certification will assist the Ministry of Agriculture in refining public policies and making informed decisions concerning resource allocation for sustainable producers. The implementation of this system has already demonstrated its value during emergency situations, enabling a rapid governmental response to challenges such as recent flooding in Rio Grande do Sul.

The VMG certificate sets a new standard in digital agricultural management in Brazil, melding efficiency, transparency, and environmental responsibility. This advancement aligns with the objectives of the upcoming COP 30 conference, showcasing Brazil’s dedication to modernizing its agricultural practices while addressing global sustainability challenges.
