David Schwartz, the Chief Technology Officer of Ripple, has announced his decision to step down from his leadership role while remaining a member of the board of directors. This announcement came through a post he made on the platform X, where he reflected on his enriching 40-year career in technology and cryptocurrency.
Schwartz, who has been a pivotal figure in the development of the XRP Ledger, plans to retire at the end of 2025. Over the past 13 years at Ripple, he has significantly contributed to various key initiatives, including the launch of the RLUSD stablecoin. In his post, Schwartz expressed excitement about having more time to spend with his family and to revisit hobbies that he had previously set aside.
Despite stepping down, Schwartz reassured the community that he remains committed to Ripple. He plans to continue his involvement by joining the board of directors and occasionally visiting the company’s office. In his own words, “I am not leaving the XRP community. You will hear from me again.”
Ripple’s CEO, Brad Garlinghouse, lauded Schwartz’s contributions to the crypto industry, describing him as “a true legend.” Garlinghouse emphasized the importance of Schwartz’s insights, particularly his deep understanding of cryptography, and noted that their weekly meetings would carry on, reinforcing their collaborative spirit.
Schwartz has previously recognized Chris Larsen as an essential figure within Ripple, indicating his strong belief in the company’s overarching vision. The exchange between the two has highlighted a mutual respect that has been a part of Ripple’s corporate culture. As Schwartz transitions to his new role, his legacy within the cryptocurrency community seems poised to endure, ensuring that his impact is felt for years to come.
