The Italian fashion house Giorgio Armani has announced the appointment of Giuseppe Marsocci as its new chief executive, following the passing of its iconic founder last month. The company highlighted Marsocci’s extensive background in the fashion and luxury industry, noting his over 35 years of experience, with 23 years spent at Armani.
In a statement, the company emphasized that this leadership transition reflects the cohesive vision of the Armani family to uphold the legacy that Giorgio Armani built over the past five decades. Marsocci’s role will be crucial as he guides the brand through a significant period of change, including executing plans laid out in Armani’s will regarding the sale of a 15 percent stake in the company within the next 18 months.
According to the will, Armani expressed his preference for the French luxury giant LVMH, cosmetics powerhouse L’Oréal, and eyewear leader EssilorLuxottica as potential buyers for portions of his business. Notably, L’Oréal and EssilorLuxottica have previously been involved with the Armani brand through licensing agreements for fragrances and eyewear, respectively.
Insider sources have indicated that LVMH’s Bernard Arnault has shown a longstanding interest in acquiring a stake in the luxury fashion house. Should the stake sale not materialize, Armani’s heirs are directed to consider an initial public offering, a move analysts believe could potentially value the company at over €7 billion.
In this new leadership structure, Marsocci will report to Leo Dell’Orco, the group’s chairman and a close associate of Giorgio Armani. Additionally, Silvana Armani, Giorgio’s niece, has been appointed as vice-chair, reinforcing the family’s presence in the company’s leadership.
Dell’Orco remarked on Marsocci’s appointment by stating that he is the natural choice to maintain the continuity and vision that the founder had for the brand. Marsocci has held various positions within the company, previously leading its operations in the American market and, more recently, serving as global chief commercial officer in close collaboration with Armani himself.
