Starbucks has experienced an overwhelming response to the recent launch of its Bearista Cold Cup, a 20-ounce glass tumbler displayed in the shape of a bear holding a Starbucks drink, topped with a lid resembling a green beanie. This festive merchandise item made its debut on Thursday, November 6, only to sell out rapidly both in stores and online, leading to a surge in resale listings that have caught fans by surprise.

The thrill of the release quickly turned to frustration for many customers who were unable to purchase the coveted cup, originally priced at $30. Resellers have taken to platforms like eBay, listing the tumblers for staggering prices ranging from $170 to as high as $1,050. Such inflated prices have sparked outrage among fans longing to add the unique item to their collections.

For those who missed out on the original, there are alternative options. Retailers such as Amazon and Walmart have introduced similar Bearista-themed cups that boast a comparable bear shape and green beanie, but without the Starbucks branding. These dupes are available at a fraction of the price, typically retailing between $16 and $24, making them an enticing option for budget-conscious fans.

Social media platforms have been abuzz with complaints from Starbucks enthusiasts. Many have voiced their disappointment over local stores having limited quantities, with some alleging that only a single cup was allocated per location. Further fueling the discontent, reports have emerged of some baristas purchasing the limited-edition cups for themselves, leaving waiting customers empty-handed.

In response to the widespread disappointment, a Starbucks spokesperson emphasized that the company had actually sent more Bearista Cold Cups to stores than with any other merchandise this holiday season. Acknowledging the heightened demand, the representative stated, “The excitement for our merchandise exceeded even our biggest expectations.” Despite the frustrations, the company assured fans that more merchandise would be on the way, although specifics about upcoming items remain undisclosed.

As the holiday season unfolds, followers of the brand are left hopeful for another opportunity to snag the Bearista Cold Cup or similar items, while the online resale market continues to thrive amidst the buzz surrounding this popular product.
