Crypto.com has announced the promotion of Travis McGhee to the position of Global Head of Predictions, a role that will see him oversee the company’s event contracts and prediction markets. This move also aligns with Crypto.com’s strategy for expansion into additional jurisdictions, enhancing its offerings to users globally.
The company initiated its prediction markets in 2024 via its CFTC-registered exchange and clearinghouse, a part of its broader operations through Crypto.com | Derivatives North America. The platform now supports event contracts covering a variety of areas including sports, financial markets, economics, and politics. Since the launch, Crypto.com has been proactive in integrating its prediction offerings with numerous brands and platforms, such as the daily fantasy sports app Underdog, social media network Truth Social, entertainment site Hollywood.com, and social gaming platform MyPrize.
Kris Marszalek, Co-Founder and CEO of Crypto.com, commented on McGhee’s appointment, highlighting the significant growth in popularity of its event contracts since their inception. “We saw a significant opportunity when we first launched our initial sports event contracts, and their popularity and our platform have grown exponentially since,” he stated. Marszalek praised McGhee as a seasoned financial technology leader, emphasizing his understanding of regulation and the need for responsible innovation. His leadership is expected to contribute greatly to the company’s endeavors in the prediction market space.
Before this new role, McGhee served as the Managing Director and Global Head of Capital Markets at Crypto.com, where he successfully expanded the product lineup to include stocks and ETF trading. His previous experience includes serving as the CEO of Crypto.com | Derivatives North America and leading the North American Derivatives Exchange, which was regulated by the CFTC prior to its acquisition by Crypto.com. His background in capital markets is extensive; he has legitimate experience as an options trader on the Chicago Mercantile Exchange and has held executive positions with companies such as Tradestation, OptionsHouse, and TradeMonster.
In discussing the future of prediction markets, McGhee noted the significant position Crypto.com holds as a leading provider of these services, particularly in the U.S. He expressed enthusiasm about continuing to build upon the company’s foundation in the prediction market sector, recognizing the growing role these markets play in digital engagement.
Crypto.com, founded in 2016, has established itself as a trusted platform with millions of users globally. The company prides itself on its commitment to regulatory compliance, security, and user privacy, with a vision of making cryptocurrency accessible to everyone.
