The New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) and Nasdaq will operate under shortened hours on Black Friday, reopening after the Thanksgiving holiday at their typical morning times but closing early at 1 p.m. ET. This early closure allows traders to complete their dealings before the weekend. Similarly, the U.S. bond market will also observe a shortened schedule, closing at 2 p.m. ET on Friday.

Following Black Friday, U.S. markets will return to regular operating hours until Christmas Eve, when they will again close early. It’s important for traders to be mindful of these schedules, especially as they navigate the busy post-Thanksgiving trading environment.

For those looking to trade on Black Friday, the NYSE’s American Equities, Arca Equities, National, and Texas late trading sessions will conclude at 5 p.m., providing a bit more time for late adjustments. Nasdaq will follow a similar pattern, opening for regular operations but shutting its doors at 1 p.m. ET.

Over-the-counter trading, which does not require an exchange and is often employed by traders seeking flexibility, will also close earlier than usual at 2 p.m. ET on Black Friday.

Regarding the holiday trading schedule for 2025, the stock markets will be closed on December 25 for Christmas, with early closures on December 24 and December 31 at 1 p.m. ET, and will also observe a holiday on January 1 for New Year’s Day.

International markets have different observances, as they do not necessarily align with U.S. holidays. For instance, the London Stock Exchange will close early on Christmas Eve at 12:30 p.m. London time (7:30 a.m. ET) and remain closed for Christmas and the subsequent Boxing Day holiday.

EuroNext Paris is expected to follow suit with early closure on Christmas Eve and full closure on Christmas Day. Additionally, the Hong Kong Stock Exchange will halt trading on Christmas Day and maintain the tradition of being closed the first weekday following the holiday.

It’s essential for traders to keep track of the varying schedules, both domestically and internationally, as they navigate their investment strategies during this festive season.
