Several educational institutions, courts, and government offices in southeastern Virginia and northeastern North Carolina have announced schedule changes for Tuesday due to forecasts of winter weather across the region.
On December 9, 2025, numerous schools will either close or delay their openings. Abraham’s Christian Academy, Alpha Beta Cappa Christian Academy, Atlantic Shores Christian School, Bethel Baptist Christian School, and many more have confirmed changes in their schedules. Most schools in the area are opening two hours late, while several, such as Cape Charles Christian School and Denbigh Baptist Christian School, will be closed for the day. Virtual learning options are also in place for some districts, notably Portsmouth City Schools and Gloucester County Public Schools.
Similarly, numerous courts are adjusting their schedules. The Chesapeake General District Court and Circuit Court are opening at 10 a.m., while Franklin City Combined Courts will open at 11 a.m. Most of the courts in the region are operating on a delayed schedule, with a few altogether closed, particularly those in the Williamsburg-James City County area.
Government offices are also altering their hours, with Chesapeake and Portsmouth announcing a two-hour delay, while other localities like Franklin are set to open at noon. Various departments within the counties are making similar adjustments.
Businesses and nonprofits are also taking precautions regarding the weather. The Bayport Credit Union is opening all branches one hour late, while the Foodbank of Southeastern Virginia will open two hours late. The Hampton Roads Community Health Center will start appointments later, with medical appointments beginning at 9:30 a.m. and dental appointments starting at 10 a.m.
As residents prepare for the winter weather, they are advised to stay informed about any further updates regarding closures and delays across schools, courts, and government entities.
