CINCINNATI — The United States Basketball Writers Association (USBWA) has recognized Xavier University graduate student Tre Carroll as one of five national Division I players of the week, coinciding with the announcement of the Oscar Robertson Trophy. This week, the association has broadened its national weekly honors to spotlight five standout players.
Carroll, who was previously named BIG EAST Player of the Week on Monday, has been making waves on the court with an impressive performance, averaging 25.5 points, 6.5 rebounds, and 2.5 assists during a successful run against Saint Francis on December 1 and Cincinnati on December 5. His shooting was particularly noteworthy, reaching 60.5 percent (23-38) from the field throughout the week.
A highlight of his week came during the rivalry match against Cincinnati, where Carroll delivered a personal best by scoring 30 points and grabbing seven rebounds. This victory marked Xavier’s sixth win in their last seven encounters with their crosstown rivals.
At present, Carroll leads Xavier in scoring and ranks fifth in the BIG EAST with an average of 17.3 points per game. Additionally, he occupies the sixth spot in the conference for field goal percentage, shooting at an impressive 48.6 percent.
Xavier currently holds a record of 7-3 and enters its final non-conference game on a four-game winning streak. The team is set to host Missouri State this Friday at 7 p.m. before kicking off BIG EAST play against Creighton at the Cintas Center on December 17.
