HBO has officially extended its two flagship series within the “Game of Thrones” universe, confirming new seasons for both “House of the Dragon” and the upcoming “A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms” through 2028. The announcement was revealed by Casey Bloys, chairman and CEO of HBO and HBO Max Content, much to the delight of fans around the globe.
“House of the Dragon,” which spotlights Emma D’Arcy in the lead role, is set to return for its third season in the summer of 2026, with plans for a fourth season to follow in 2028. Meanwhile, the highly anticipated “A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms” will kick off its first season on January 19, 2026, and a second season has already been planned for 2027.
This news arrives as a significant boost to fans in the Philippines, who have proven to be some of the most ardent supporters of the “Game of Thrones” franchise. During its debut season, “House of the Dragon” dominated local streaming charts and consistently became a trending topic on social media with each new episode release.
Francesca Orsi, executive vice president of HBO Programming, expressed excitement about the renewal, stating, “We are thrilled to be able to deliver new seasons of these two series for the next three years, for the legion of fans of the Game of Thrones universe.” She also teased the upcoming content, indicating that audiences can expect an inspiring underdog story with “A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms,” which is based on the works of George R.R. Martin and Ira Parker. This series promises a more character-focused narrative centered on the adventures of Ser Duncan the Tall and his squire, Egg.
On the other hand, “House of the Dragon,” set 200 years prior to the events of its predecessor, continues to explore the intense power struggles within House Targaryen, eventually leading to a catastrophic civil war known as the Dance of the Dragons.
Filipino audiences looking to catch up can revisit the first two seasons of “House of the Dragon” on HBO Max, making it a perfect opportunity to gear up for the new seasons ahead. Meanwhile, “A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms” will begin streaming on January 19, 2026, anticipated to further enrich the lore of the beloved franchise.
