Residents in Chelan County, particularly in Leavenworth, are facing significant challenges due to widespread power outages caused by severe weather conditions. As of Thursday, approximately 5,701 individuals in the Leavenworth area were reported to be without electricity after the adverse weather brought heavy rain and strong winds. Chelan Public Utility District (PUD) officials confirmed the outages began early Thursday.
In response to the ongoing situation, city officials announced that the Village of Lights display in Front Street Park, part of the annual Christmastown festival, will not be illuminated this weekend due to the impact of the inclement weather.
Local agencies are working diligently to address the fallout from the storm. Collaborations between Chelan County Emergency Management, the Chelan County Sheriff’s Office, and Chelan County Public Works are focused on clearing fallen trees and securing power lines, with the ultimate aim of restoring electricity to all affected residents.
Efforts are also in progress to find a suitable drop-off site for the large amounts of brush and debris generated by the fallen trees. However, these efforts are complicated by widespread road closures and flooding, particularly affecting the Leavenworth and Peshastin areas, where numerous downed power lines and trees have been reported.
Crews from multiple agencies are currently on the ground, actively working to resolve these issues and ensure public safety. Residents are encouraged to stay in touch with Chelan County PUD for updates regarding the power situation and to report any downed lines they encounter. In the midst of the outages, attractions such as Leavenworth Adventure Park have temporarily closed, and the Welcome Center and Christmastown events at the Festhalle were also shut down on Thursday.
City officials are urging residents to exercise patience as crews work to restore power and normalcy to the community.
