MERCED COUNTY – A head-on collision occurred south of Hilmar early Thursday morning, resulting in injuries to both drivers involved. The California Highway Patrol reported that the accident took place around 5:20 a.m. on Highway 165, just north of Turner Road. A 47-year-old man from Ceres has been arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence after his Nissan Altima drifted into oncoming traffic, colliding with a Hyundai Genesis driven by a 33-year-old.
Both vehicles were traveling at approximately 55 mph at the time of impact. Emergency responders quickly arrived at the scene, transporting the drivers to Doctors Medical Center in Modesto for medical attention. The injuries sustained ranged from minor to moderate. Reports indicate that the driver of the Altima was not wearing a seatbelt during the collision.
