In preparation for the highly anticipated Army-Navy Game, federal authorities are implementing a Temporary Flight Restriction over Baltimore, Maryland, this Saturday. The restriction will be in effect from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., creating a no-fly zone for drones within a 2-nautical-mile radius of M&T Bank Stadium, extending up to 2,000 feet in altitude.
The measure is being enforced by a coalition of agencies including the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), the Secret Service, Naval Criminal Investigation Service, Federal Air Marshals, and both local law enforcement and Maryland State Police. These agencies will actively monitor the airspace to ensure compliance with the restrictions.
U.S. Attorney Kelly O. Hayes emphasized the seriousness of any violations, describing drone operation in restricted airspace as not only illegal but also hazardous. “An Unmanned Aircraft System operator could lose control of the drone, threatening the safety and lives of those below,” Hayes stated. She also reiterated her office’s commitment to investigating and prosecuting anyone who disobeys the no-drone zone during the event.
FBI Baltimore Special Agent in Charge Jimmy Paul echoed these sentiments, pointing out that unauthorized drone activity poses significant safety and security risks to large crowds. “The FBI is committed to working with our local, state, and federal partners to ensure the Army-Navy game remains a special experience for all and to keep everyone safe as they enjoy America’s game,” he said.
Authorities are urging the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious drone activity. Violators could face arrest, hefty fines, and potential prison sentences under the FAA’s strict enforcement policy.
This heightened security comes on the heels of news that former President Donald Trump plans to attend the game. Trump announced his intentions to the press while speaking to service members on Thanksgiving, noting that it is a tradition for sitting presidents to attend these events, especially when they are local.
