Amy Schumer has officially announced the end of her marriage to Chris Fischer, sharing the news via Instagram on December 12. The couple, who were first linked romantically in 2017 and married in February 2018, have been together for over seven years. They share a young son, Gene, who was born in May 2019.
In her post, Schumer expressed the emotional weight of the decision. “Blah blah blah Chris and I have made the difficult decision to end our marriage after 7 years,” she stated, accompanied by a photo of the family together on the New York City subway. Emphasizing that their love remains intact, she said, “We love each other very much and will continue to focus on raising our son. We would appreciate people respecting our privacy at this time.”
The comedian also humorously addressed some public speculation about their relationship. “Not because I dropped some lbs and thought I could bag a basket and not because he’s a hot Jame Beard award winning chef who can still pull some hot tail. Amicable and all love and respect! Family forever,” she added.
Sources close to the couple described their split as amicable, noting that there was “nothing ugly” about the separation. “It’s a cohesive split. They’ve just been finalizing a few things,” a source told a publication.
In the weeks leading up to the announcement, speculation regarding the couple’s relationship had been circulating. Sources previously indicated that they were navigating typical challenges faced by long-term couples but remained committed to each other. A week before the announcement, Schumer had shared a post on Instagram with a nod to Hulu’s divorce-lawyer series, All’s Fair, while reaffirming their marital status. “And Chris and I are still married,” she added.
On December 1, Schumer addressed the swirling rumors in a longer health update, stating, “Whatever ends up happening with me and Chris has nothing to do with weight loss or autism.” She concluded that post with a hopeful, “Fingers crossed we make it through. He’s the best.”
Interestingly, just days before her announcement, Schumer had purged her Instagram account of previous photos featuring Fischer, describing the act as a spontaneous move. She wrote, “I actually left my house tonight. Who’s proud? I’m feeling good and happy. Deleted my old pics for no reason!”
The couple’s last public appearance together was at a 2025 Tribeca Film Festival premiere in June for the documentary Room To Move. As they transition into this new phase of their lives, both Schumer and Fischer are focused on co-parenting their son in a supportive and respectful manner.
