Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah has been included in the squad for Saturday’s Premier League showdown against Brighton, following a series of positive discussions with head coach Arne Slot. The decision comes as Slot aims to navigate the team’s needs amid injury concerns affecting several players.
While Salah’s inclusion is a positive sign, it is noted that unresolved issues remain between the player and the club, particularly concerning negotiations involving Salah’s agent, Ramy Abbas. These discussions will continue during Salah’s participation in the Africa Cup of Nations.
Salah, who is 33 years old, had previously been omitted from the traveling squad for Liverpool’s Champions League match against Inter Milan. This decision followed his controversial statement indicating a breakdown in his relationship with Slot, which he described as being “thrown under the bus” after the team’s 3-3 draw against Leeds. During that game, Salah found himself on the bench for the third consecutive outing, prompting him to express his frustrations candidly.
In a recent interview, Salah indicated that Saturday’s match could serve as a poignant farewell to Anfield and mentioned that he had invited his mother to witness the occasion.
During a pre-match news conference, Slot addressed Salah’s situation, asserting, “there are no reasons to not want Mohamed Salah to stay” at Liverpool. When asked about the future of the Egyptian international—who had signed a new two-year contract in April—Slot hinted at the necessity of an upcoming conversation with Salah. He emphasized that the outcome of this dialogue would be pivotal in shaping the next phase of their relationship.
