Tennessee State University (TSU) is set to wrap up its nonconference schedule at the Jack Jones Classic in Henderson, Nevada, facing off against the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV). After a recent loss to Alabama A&M on December 3, the Tigers aim to bounce back against a UNLV team that secured a notable victory against Stanford last Sunday.
The upcoming game will mark the second time these two teams have met, with their first encounter in history leading to a 101-83 defeat for TSU at the Thomas & Mack Center on December 28, 2021. Currently, TSU holds a record of 5-4, while UNLV stands at 4-5.
This matchup is particularly significant as it is the second neutral-site event for TSU this season. Earlier in November, the Tigers triumphed at the Coke Zero Sugar Classic in Chattanooga.
The game will take place on Saturday, December 13, at 8:30 PM CT (6:30 PM PT) at Lee’s Family Forum and will be broadcast on Baller TV.
In terms of statistics from their recent game against Alabama A&M, several players made notable contributions. Jalen Pitre led the Tigers with 11 points, marking his third consecutive game in double figures. He also secured four offensive rebounds, contributing to TSU’s impressive tally of 18 second-chance points. Travis Harper II added six points and added three offensive boards, playing a vital role in the team’s hustle effort.
Defensively, TSU showcased their intensity with seven steals, including four by Aaron Nkrumah, which led to several fast-break opportunities. Additionally, the Tigers capitalized on their size and athleticism in the paint, scoring 22 points in that area and overwhelming their opponents on the boards with a total of 42 rebounds.
As Tennessee State prepares for this important game against UNLV, they aspire to improve their performance and build momentum as they transition into conference play.
