Ranveer Singh and Akshaye Khanna’s latest film, ‘Dhurandhar,’ has made a remarkable debut at the box office, showing an impressive performance that has continued its upward trajectory. The spy action thriller garnered an impressive Rs 100 crore over its opening weekend, maintaining significant momentum over the first four days of its release. Early projections suggest that the film is likely to experience even more growth on its fifth day, hinting at a strong first week ahead.
As of Tuesday, early estimates indicated a 30% increase in box office collections compared to the previous day, a feat that many major releases struggle to achieve after their opening weekend. The film kicked off with a robust Rs 28 crore on Friday and saw its numbers swell over the weekend—earning Rs 32 crore on Saturday and Rs 43 crore on Sunday. This brought the total weekend earnings to Rs 103 crore net.
After the anticipated dip on Monday, where it still managed to collect over Rs 23.25 crore net, Tuesday saw a marked rebound with estimated earnings of Rs 26.5 crore, positioning the film’s net total in India at around Rs 152.75 crore. Notably, on Tuesday, the film recorded an overall occupancy rate of 39.66%, with night shows peaking at an impressive 63.13%.
‘Dhurandhar’ has now entered the ranks of the top five highest-grossing films in Ranveer Singh’s career, approaching the lifetime collection of his 2024 release, ‘Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani,’ which stands at Rs 153.55 crore. Other notable films include ‘Bajirao Mastani’ with Rs 184.3 crore, ‘Simmba’ at Rs 240.3 crore, and the historical epic ‘Padmaavat,’ which remains his highest grosser at Rs 302.15 crore.
Expanding its success beyond domestic shores, ‘Dhurandhar’ has also achieved significant worldwide box office collections. The film’s all-India gross has reached Rs 182.75 crore, and with overseas collections of Rs 42 crore, the total is now approximately Rs 224.75 crore. If the current momentum continues, industry insiders predict the film may close its first week with around Rs 175 crore net, establishing it as one of the year’s standout releases.
In exciting news for fans, the makers of ‘Dhurandhar’ have confirmed that a sequel is set to release on March 19, 2026. This announcement, revealed in a post-credits scene, arose shortly after speculation that the film would be produced as a two-part franchise. The sequel will compete with Yash’s film ‘Toxic’ during the Eid 2026 weekend.
On the streaming front, ‘Dhurandhar’ has secured a lucrative Rs 130 crore deal for its OTT release, reportedly sold to Netflix for Rs 65 crore for each part of the franchise, marking one of the largest purchases for a Bollywood title in recent times.
Akshaye Khanna’s portrayal of the villain in ‘Dhurandhar’ has received widespread acclaim, with his viral dance performance on a Balochi number capturing the attention of audiences on social media. Veteran actress Ameesha Patel praised him on Instagram, reminiscing about their past collaboration and commending his current success.
Looking ahead, ‘Dhurandhar’ will have one more weekend to run on its strong box office numbers before facing stiff competition from the highly anticipated Hollywood release, ‘Avatar: Fire and Ash,’ which is expected to dominate screens beginning December 19.
Directed by Aditya Dhar, ‘Dhurandhar’ revolves around an intricate web of crime, espionage, and betrayal, featuring a stellar cast that includes Sanjay Dutt, R. Madhavan, Arjun Rampal, and Sara Arjun, alongside Singh and Khanna. The film’s gripping narrative and strong performances have contributed to its remarkable success thus far.
