Rams' Rushing Attack Thrives as Blake Corum Shines in Year Two

The Los Angeles Rams are showcasing one of the most effective rushing attacks in the NFL this season, averaging an impressive 4.7 yards per carry, which ranks them ninth in the league. Leading this effort is Kyren Williams, who has amassed 952 rushing yards and eight touchdowns, averaging 4.9 yards per attempt. However, second-year running back Blake Corum has also made a significant impact on the team’s offensive strategy.

In just 13 games this season, Corum has accumulated 550 rushing yards along with four touchdowns, achieving a commendable average of 5.4 yards per carry. This marks a substantial improvement from his rookie season, where he only managed 207 yards with a 3.6 yards per attempt average.

Rams offensive coordinator Mike LaFleur recently addressed the media, shedding light on the factors contributing to Corum’s enhanced performance. “I think it’s the comfort level in terms of just being in year two,” LaFleur noted, highlighting the progression Corum has made since last year. He emphasized that while Williams has been a key player, the offseason preparation has allowed Corum to build confidence and familiarity with the nuances of the position.

“It’s not as easy as just standing back seven and a half yards behind the quarterback and getting a handoff,” LaFleur explained. “There are a lot of intricacies with it. Not that he was behind at all, it’s just he was a rookie. You can just see the comfort level, and with that comfort level comes confidence. With confidence comes what you are seeing on Sunday.”

Corum’s recent performances have been particularly noteworthy, as he recorded the best two games of his career in consecutive weeks. He rushed for 81 yards and one touchdown on just seven carries against the Carolina Panthers, followed by a standout performance against the Arizona Cardinals, where he logged 128 yards and two touchdowns on 12 attempts.

The division of duties in Los Angeles’ backfield not only keeps both players fresh as the regular season approaches its conclusion but also positions the team to rely on their rushing game as they head into the postseason. With both Corum and Williams performing at a high level, the Rams’ offensive strategy appears to be in prime position for continued success as they aim for a deep playoff run.

As the 2025 season progresses, the Rams are also being recognized as the most dominant team in the Sean McVay era, further highlighting their potential as strong contenders in the league.
