In a recent letter to the Shiba Inu community, developer Kaal Dhairya provided an introspective overview of the challenges faced by the Shiba Inu project in 2025. Highlighting that the last few months have been particularly trying, Dhairya pointed to the Shibarium hack as a significant event during this period, attributing the difficulties to a lack of available leadership to navigate through the crisis.
Responding to concerns surrounding allegations that the Shiba Inu team had not formally reported the hack to authorities, Dhairya clarified that he personally had participated in interviews with federal agents. He assured the community that all pertinent information and findings from the incident had been shared, emphasizing that “the official process is happening. It has been happening.”
Offering an update on the Shibarium bridge incident, Dhairya stated that technical recovery efforts are largely complete. The integration with Hexens was finalized, and the checkpoint system is now functional again. In a notable initiative, Dhairya announced the launch of a program called “Shib Owes You” (SOU). This program aims to compensate users affected by the hack by converting their losses into NFTs on the Ethereum blockchain. Each NFT will act as an on-chain, verifiable record of what the ecosystem owes to each user, which can be merged, split, or even sold on supported marketplaces.
Dhairya reassured the community that the vision for Shiba Inu remains intact despite recent setbacks. He indicated that the team will concentrate on its role as the technology backbone for the ecosystem going forward. In a strategic shift, Dhairya announced plans to pause or discontinue projects and processes not contributing to revenue generation or the overarching goal of user restitution.
Emphasizing a focus on tangible value creation rather than hype, he warned that difficult decisions are imminent. Systems that no longer support the project’s future will be phased out. Dhairya mentioned a potential overhaul of tokenomics to ensure proper alignment of incentives moving forward, targeting a return of value to both the network and affected users.
The forthcoming year is poised to be one of reflection and rebuilding for Shiba Inu, with an emphasis on sustainable development and user recovery.
