Amazon is set to initiate significant layoffs affecting thousands of corporate employees, with cuts expected to commence as early as next week. This action marks the second substantial reduction in workforce since October, when the company announced the elimination of approximately 14,000 positions. Sources reveal that the upcoming wave of layoffs may mirror the previous cuts, pushing the total number of job losses close to 30,000.

These layoffs are part of Amazon’s broader strategy to streamline its operations and foster a cultural reset within the organization. Initially, Amazon linked its October job reductions to the impacts of artificial intelligence. However, CEO Andy Jassy later clarified that the layoffs were primarily driven by issues related to cultural fit rather than direct cost-saving measures or the influence of AI.

While Amazon employs over 1.5 million individuals worldwide, the corporate workforce represents a smaller fraction, totaling around 350,000 employees. The latest cuts are a clear indication of the company’s ongoing efforts to navigate a challenging business landscape.

As the news unfolds, the implications for both the workforce and the company’s operational direction will be closely scrutinized by analysts and industry observers alike. An Amazon spokesperson has not provided any additional comments at this time.
