In a troubling development, TMZ reports that a fourth demand for bitcoin has surfaced in the ongoing investigation into the kidnapping of Nancy Guthrie, the mother of “Today” co-host Savannah Guthrie. This latest communication, which came through after a series of previous demands, contains unsettling details about the alleged kidnappers and hints at an international element to the case.
The sender of the messages claimed to have observed Nancy with individuals in a foreign location five days ago and indicated that he possesses crucial information about her whereabouts. His message, while vague, suggested familiarity with the situation: “I know what I saw south of the border and I was told to shut up so I know who he is and that was definitely Nancy with them.” Notably, the missive refers to multiple kidnappers, raising alarm about a potential escalation in the investigation.
The demands have shifted following an increase in the FBI’s reward for information leading to Nancy’s safe return, which now stands at $100,000. The unidentified sender has adjusted his request to ask for $50,000 in bitcoin as an upfront payment, with another $50,000 to be paid upon the delivery of the promised information.
TMZ has stated that they are forwarding all communications to the FBI and have encouraged the sender to disclose information that might lead to the safe recovery of Nancy and the identification of her captors. The outlet assured the individual that if their information results in a breakthrough, they would have a documented record establishing their role in the recovery effort, thus qualifying for the reward.
Complicating matters, the alleged tipster expressed hesitation in coming forward due to a past legal issue, specifically a 10-year-old burglary charge. His initial outreach to TMZ last Wednesday requested a single bitcoin, valued at approximately $67,000, in exchange for details about Nancy’s whereabouts. He reiterated his offer in subsequent messages, including promises to reveal the identity of the purported main kidnapper following the initial payment.
As the search for the 84-year-old Guthrie extends into its third week, Savannah Guthrie has made a heartfelt public plea, addressing whoever is responsible for her mother’s kidnapping through an emotional Instagram video. In her message, she urged the captors to “do the right thing,” emphasizing that it is “never too late” to bring Nancy home safely. The ongoing situation remains dire, with the family and authorities working tirelessly to locate the elderly woman and ensure her safe return.
