In a notable development from the Cannes film market, Patrick Wachsberger’s 193 has successfully secured several distribution deals for its slate of films. The company is poised for further negotiations, with additional agreements reportedly under consideration.
Sun Distribution has made significant inroads by acquiring multiple rights for the film The Brigands of Rattlecreek, alongside Art and Bitcoin across various territories in Latin America and Spain. Additionally, the company has also obtained rights for Bitcoin in South Africa. Meanwhile, Leone Film Group has acquired the distribution rights for The Brigands of Rattlecreek in Italy, further bolstering the film’s international presence. DCM has also come on board, securing rights for Art in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland.
Industry insiders are speculating that these recent deals could signal the potential for output agreements in the near future.
Ricardo Costianovsky and Tomas Darcyl of Sun Distribution expressed their enthusiasm for the collaborations, stating, “193 brought an exceptional slate to Cannes this year, and we’re thrilled to be partnering across several of these projects. The combination of ambitious storytelling and world-class talent, with filmmakers ranging from Park Chan-wook to Doug Liman, made this a natural fit for Sun and our territories.”
Andrea Leone of Leone Film Group echoed this sentiment, highlighting their strong working relationship with Wachsberger. “There was no question for the children and grandchildren of Sergio Leone that The Brigands of Rattlecreek is a film that we had to distribute. We are proud to bring Park Chan-wook’s visionary western to Italy,” she said.
DCM’s Carl Rickmers also shared his excitement about their partnership, noting, “DCM is excited to have closed our first deal with 193. Art tells a funny, outrageous, and compelling story of friendship and connection. We are thrilled to bring this exceptional film to audiences across Germany, Austria, and Switzerland.”
Earlier reports indicated that WB Clockwork secured the domestic rights to The Brigands of Rattlecreek, positioning the film for a wide release in the United States. The deals reflect the continued interest and investment in diverse storytelling from renowned filmmakers at this year’s Cannes market.
