A disturbing incident at a McDonald’s in Yuba City has left a 20-year-old manager, Jacob Smith, in critical condition after being allegedly attacked by a co-worker. Jacob suffered third-degree burns on his face, neck, hands, and shoulders when 23-year-old Jalani Bluett reportedly threw scorching hot oil on him following their shift on May 30. He is currently receiving specialized treatment at UC Davis Medical Center.
The situation escalated rapidly after what should have been a routine workday. Following the incident, Bluett was reported missing, prompting a search by authorities. He was eventually located and taken into custody. Smith’s mother, Amber Smith, expressed her anguish over the attack, emphasizing that her son is engaged and striving to establish a stable life.
Despite facing significant challenges and intense pain during his recovery, Jacob has managed to maintain a commendable positive attitude. “My son has an amazing spirit, and in the midst of all of this has been positive and trying to make us feel better,” Amber shared. She described him as a genuinely good person, not just in her eyes as a mother, but in the community.
The family has been deeply touched by the outpouring of support from the community as Smith continues his recovery journey. In order to offset the mounting medical expenses, they have initiated a GoFundMe campaign. Jacob is expected to undergo multiple surgeries soon, including a skin graft procedure, which underlines the severity of his injuries.
Amber reflected on her son’s emotional struggle, recalling how heartbreaking it was when Jacob questioned, “Why would he do this to me?” She expressed her desire to relieve him of financial worries so he can focus entirely on his healing process. Bluett is now facing serious charges, including battery resulting in grave bodily injury, as the case unfolds and the community rallies around the Smith family during this distressing time.
