Hashgraph, through its Hedera blockchain, has announced a strategic partnership with Merk aimed at enhancing global compliance and supply chain tracking. This collaboration will extend the capabilities of the TrackTraceDigital Product Passport (DPP) platform to support Merk and align with the European Union’s upcoming product transparency regulations.
The Hedera-powered digital traceability infrastructure will be integrated with Merk’s authentication system, providing proof of authenticity for products and bolstering consumer trust. The partnership not only meets the increasing demands for transparency in the supply chain but also anticipates new regulatory frameworks set to take effect in the EU.
Starting from 2026, the Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation (ESPR) mandates the use of Digital Product Passports, which will include QR codes detailing the origin and manufacturing process of products. This regulation, alongside the EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR), will apply to various commodities such as cocoa, coffee, and timber, ensuring that products entering the market adhere to sustainability and transparency standards.
The collaboration between Hashgraph and Merk is strategically designed to facilitate compliance across the entire supply value chain, addressing both current and future regulatory landscapes. Dr. Thomas Endress, Executive Director and Head of M-Trust in the Group Science & Technology Office at Merk, emphasized that the shift towards digital authentication represents a significant advancement in safeguarding product integrity and enhancing consumer confidence. This initiative is expected to pave the way for more robust supply chain practices and accountability in the years to come.
