BSE Index Services Pvt. Ltd., a subsidiary of the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), has introduced India’s first Saatvik Index, known as the BSE Saatvik 100. This new index is designed from the constituents of the BSE 500 Index and adheres to Saatvik principles, appealing to investors interested in ethical and value-based investment decisions.
With a base value set at 1000 and an initial value date of June 20, 2005, the BSE Saatvik 100 will undergo semi-annual reconstitution in June and December. During the launch event, Mr. Ashutosh Singh, Managing Director and CEO of BSE Index Services, emphasized the significance of this index in providing investors with a means of aligning their capital investments with ethical, cultural, and philosophical values. He noted that as market dynamics evolve, there is a growing inclination among investors to incorporate non-traditional financial metrics in their decision-making processes.
The BSE Saatvik 100 Index is positioned not only as a standalone investment vehicle but also as a foundational tool for various passive investment strategies. This includes Exchange-Traded Funds (ETFs) and Index Funds, as well as serving as a benchmark for Portfolio Management Services (PMS) and Mutual Fund (MF) schemes. It opens up a wider array of market opportunities, enriching the investment landscape available to both retail and institutional investors.
BSE Index Services Pvt. Ltd., formerly known as Asia Index Pvt. Ltd., operates under the aegis of BSE, the oldest stock exchange in Asia and home to the prominent SENSEX index. The company aims to offer a comprehensive range of indices to cater to domestic and global investors, ensuring the calculation, publication, and maintenance of a diverse array of indices.
Established as a vital component in the evolution of the Indian capital market, BSE stands out as the largest exchange globally in terms of the number of listed companies. It has consistently provided an efficient platform for capital raising and continues to influence investor sentiment and market trends through its benchmark SENSEX index, which serves as a key indicator of the Indian economy’s performance. BSE facilitates a transparent trading environment across various asset classes, including equity, debt instruments, derivatives, mutual funds, and more.
