American Express has announced the launch of a new travel app designed to streamline the booking, planning, and management of travel experiences for cardholders. Set to be available for iOS users starting September 18 and for Android users in the following weeks, the app aims to simplify the travel organization process through a cohesive digital platform.
The app offers features such as themed destination guides and tools to consolidate flight, hotel, and transportation information. It also allows direct access to premium travel programs including Fine Hotels + Resorts and The Hotel Collection, enhancing the overall experience for users.
One of the standout features of the app is Amex Passport, which generates digital stamps reminiscent of those received in physical passports. These unique tokens, minted as non-fungible tokens (NFTs) on Coinbase’s Base network, are customizable and can include memorable highlights from trips, making them easily shareable on social media. This innovative approach responds to a growing desire among travelers—over half of whom express missing the traditional passport stamps—to find modern ways to commemorate their journeys.
Although tagged as NFTs, American Express has opted not to label them as such in order to focus on their primary purpose: enriching travel experiences rather than generating immediate revenue. The digital stamps, based on the ERC-721 standard, hold commemorative intent and do not possess any economic value. Fireblocks is providing Wallet-as-a-Service support to ensure secure management of these tokens.
In addition to these features, the app enhances access to Centurion Lounges for Platinum Card holders by providing estimated wait times, thereby helping travelers plan better during their airport visits. This improvement strengthens one of the benefits most valued by users of the Platinum Card.
With the launch of this travel app, American Express aspires to integrate various travel services into a single, user-friendly application. By combining practical travel planning tools with modern commemorative elements enabled through blockchain technology, the company aims to redefine how cardholders engage with their travel experiences.
