Recently, Premier and Minister of Finance of Bermuda, David Burt, participated in Chainlink’s SmartCon 2025, a prominent global conference dedicated to blockchain infrastructure, capital markets, and digital finance. Held in New York, the event provided a platform for the Government of Bermuda to enhance its relationships with international financial and technology leaders. It also served to fortify Bermuda’s reputation as a hub for regulated digital innovation, aiming to draw investment into the island’s burgeoning digital finance ecosystem.
During the conference, Premier Burt engaged in discussions with notable executives from prominent institutions, including New York Life Insurance, Chubb Insurance, Euroclear, Bank of New York, Apex Group, OpenExO, Coinfund, and the Global Blockchain Business Council. The Premier also contributed to a fireside panel focused on Bermuda’s leadership role in digital finance.
“He stated, ‘Bermuda continues to demonstrate that innovation and sound regulation can coexist. SmartCon brought together the world’s most advanced thinkers in finance and technology, and our participation ensures that Bermuda remains part of that global conversation.’”
Burt emphasized the need to pursue opportunities that enhance the efficiency and inclusiveness of payment systems for Bermudians, while also attracting significant investment and job creation. He reiterated the importance of Bermuda’s Digital Asset Business Act (DABA), which is recognized globally for its rigorous framework, and committed to promoting it as a cornerstone for sustainable growth in the digital finance sector.
A spokesperson from the Government pointed out that a key objective of Burt’s visit was to connect with U.S. and international digital asset businesses considering applications under DABA. The discussions highlighted Bermuda’s high-caliber regulatory environment, which prioritizes compliance, transparency, and innovation. Key topics included enhancing digital payment systems to stimulate economic growth, offering free AI education and upskilling initiatives for Bermudians, and revitalizing Bermuda’s hedge fund industry.
The Premier’s participation in SmartCon was supported by representatives from both the Ministry of Finance and the Bermuda Monetary Authority, signaling the Government’s commitment to advancing Bermuda’s position in the evolving landscape of digital finance.
