In a chilling development, the bitcoin account linked to Nancy Guthrie’s ransom situation has begun to show activity, raising eyebrows and questions about the source of the new funds. As of Tuesday evening, logs indicate that approximately $152 worth of bitcoin has been deposited into the account, which is publicly accessible. The influx of cash consisted of .0022 bitcoin, credited to the account in a single transaction.
The origin of this deposit remains shrouded in mystery. With anyone who has obtained a copy of the ransom note being able to wire funds to the account, speculation abounds regarding who may be responsible for this contribution. Notably, the transaction was recorded around 7 p.m. ET, a detail brought to light by TMZ founder Harvey Levin during an appearance on Fox News.
Levin has been following the case closely and noted that his outlet has monitored the bitcoin account since they first received information regarding it. He expressed caution in reflecting on the details of the ransom note, emphasizing the need for discretion due to the sensitive nature of the case. “There are reasons that I have been careful with my words, and it obviously has to do with sourcing,” he stated, hinting at the complexity of the situation.
He described the ransom note as “so well constructed” that it suggested someone with an intelligent approach authored it. Levin noted the note’s clarity and precision, stating it covered all necessary points effectively. However, he mentioned a significant oversight made by the alleged kidnapper, which has left him puzzled.
Security footage captured on February 1 shows a masked and armed individual approaching the door of Guthrie’s residence. This individual was not only clad to conceal their identity but also failed to recognize that a doorbell camera was recording their movements. According to Levin, the masked suspect’s realization of the camera prompted them to awkwardly stoop down to obscure it with surrounding foliage.
Levin commented on the contrast between the suspect’s seemingly careful planning and their apparent lack of awareness regarding the surveillance, stating, “There’s something bumbling about it where this person took enough care to completely cover himself, yet he doesn’t realize that there’s a camera on that door.”
As the investigation continues, the recent bitcoin deposit adds an intriguing layer to what has already proven to be a complicated case, leaving authorities and the public alike on high alert.
