Bitget, recognized as the largest Universal Exchange (UEX) globally, recently made significant strides in enhancing digital connectivity for education in the Philippines. The company has expanded its Blockchain4Youth (B4Y) initiative by deploying Starlink satellite internet, providing high-speed internet to six schools in the regions of Surigao del Norte, Siquijor, and Negros Oriental.
This initiative has benefitted more than 7,300 students and over 100 teachers, filling a critical gap in digital accessibility in remote islands where internet services have historically been unreliable or unavailable. Schools that were once dependent on printed materials are now able to incorporate digital tools into their educational framework, completely transforming teaching and learning experiences.
The selected schools include the Espoir School of Life and Lasala Integrated School in Surigao del Norte; Apo Elementary School and the Arts & Design Collective Dumaguete in Negros Oriental; and Siquijor State College and Siquijor Provincial Science High School in Siquijor. For many of these institutions, this marks a significant milestone as it is their first exposure to dependable high-speed internet.
Gracy Chen, CEO of Bitget, emphasized the importance of this initiative, stating, “This project is not just about connectivity — it’s about opportunity.” The deployment of Starlink is aimed at equipping youth with access to the digital world, providing essential tools for competing in the future economy.
Beyond mere internet provision, Bitget’s team has engaged in various preparatory activities such as educator consultations and digital readiness assessments. This groundwork sets the stage for future Web3 and digital literacy programs, ensuring that schools can leverage their new connectivity in ways that extend beyond basic internet use. Teachers now have access to online training resources, and students can tap into interactive learning tools that help enrich their education.
The Starlink deployment aligns with Bitget’s broader PayFi Islands initiative, which seeks to extend digital infrastructure and educational opportunities to underserved areas in the Philippines. Moving forward, Bitget plans to enhance access to connectivity solutions and develop digital skills programs to ensure inclusivity in the rapidly changing digital landscape.
By combining high-speed internet access with sustained educational support, Bitget is making substantial contributions towards bridging the digital divide, thereby improving learning outcomes and facilitating greater participation in the global digital economy.
