Bitget, the largest Universal Exchange (UEX) globally, has stepped up to assist communities devastated by a recent 6.9 magnitude earthquake in northern Cebu, Philippines. In collaboration with The Ascent Project, the exchange launched a donation drive aimed at providing essential relief supplies to those affected by the natural disaster. The initiative has successfully delivered aid to 118 residents in Bogo City and San Remigio.
The earthquake, noted as one of the most powerful to strike northern Cebu in recent history, has wreaked havoc across the region. It has left thousands of individuals displaced and has severely compromised local infrastructure. In response to this dire situation, Bitget allocated a relief fund of PHP 100,000, facilitating the distribution of food packs, hygiene kits, and other critical necessities to over one hundred families grappling with the disaster’s aftermath.
The relief operation was executed on November 2, with guidance from The Ascent Project and local volunteers. The team coordinated closely with barangay officials to identify the households most in need, ensuring that aid reached those facing urgent circumstances. Many families were reported to be without stable access to electricity and clean water, making the timely arrival of relief supplies even more crucial, especially as weather alerts pointed to an impending storm.
“My heart goes out to the people that have been struggling during this difficult time,” shared Gracy Chen, CEO of Bitget. “Our community in Cebu has helped us stand with those in need during such distress, and we hope to support and continue building trust.”
The initiative highlights Bitget’s commitment to engaging directly with user communities to identify urgent needs, reflecting the exchange’s grassroots approach. This donation effort is part of a larger global impact strategy aimed at fostering long-term partnerships, including a collaboration with UNICEF that seeks to extend digital and blockchain education to over 1 million young individuals by 2027.
As recovery efforts progress in northern Cebu, Bitget and its local partners are assessing additional avenues to deliver aid and support rebuilding initiatives. The exchange’s commitment extends beyond trading platforms, focusing on meaningful, on-the-ground support for communities in desperate need.
