Cason R. “Dick” Whitehurst, age 76, passed away peacefully at his home in Ironton on December 10, 2025, following a courageous battle with cancer. Surrounded by family, his passing marked the end of a life filled with love, joy, and cherished memories.
Born on August 1, 1949, in Norfolk, Virginia, Dick was the son of Richard Cason and Rosemary (Gardner) Whitehurst. His family moved to Wonewoc when he was an infant, and he spent most of his life in the Reedsburg area. On October 18, 1969, he married Joan R. Jensen, to whom he remained devoted for 56 years. Together, they raised three children: Patrick, Tressa, and Cason (Casey).
A long-time member of St. Peter’s Ev. Lutheran Church in Reedsburg, Dick was known for his outgoing personality. He was often described as the life of the party, easily making friends wherever he went. His strong commitment to family was evident; he rarely missed any of his 11 grandchildren’s events, and he took great joy in every moment spent with them.
Dick was not only a devoted husband and father but also an enthusiastic golfer and a passionate sports fan. His love for life was characterized by a joyful and grateful attitude, which left a lasting impression on those around him.
He is survived by his wife, Joan; children Patrick (Anna Peyton) Whitehurst of Minturn, Colorado, Tressa (Matthew) Bauer of Reedsburg, and Cason “Casey” (Gretchen) Whitehurst of Wisconsin Dells; and grandchildren Elijah (Peyton) Bauer, Lydia Bauer, Isaiah Bauer, Isabel Bauer, Treyton Whitehurst, Clara Bauer, Cooper Whitehurst, Adelind Whitehurst, Evelyn Bauer, Emmaline Whitehurst, and Savanna Whitehurst. He is also survived by his brother Donald (Rosanna Armson) Whitehurst of Minneapolis, his sister Alice (Gary) Antonetti of Evansville, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
Dick was preceded in death by his parents.
A memorial service honoring his life will take place on December 19, 2025, at 11 AM at St. Peter’s Ev. Lutheran Church in Reedsburg, officiated by Pastor Paul Crolius. Visitation will be held from 10:00 AM until the service begins, also at the church. Following the service, there will be a private family burial at Resting Green Cemetery in Ironton.
The Farber Funeral Home in Reedsburg is assisting the family with funeral arrangements. Dick’s family expresses deep sadness at his passing but finds comfort in the memories they created together and the belief that he is now at peace in Heaven.
