CBS has taken steps to reopen its sexual assault investigation concerning allegations made against David Del Rio, a star on the network’s revival of “Matlock.” Reports emerged from TMZ detailing that the review was reinstated on December 10, following new interviews conducted in late November, which included testimonies from Del Rio himself and his attorney, Shawn Holley.
The allegations against Del Rio, 38, stem from an incident involving his co-star Leah Lewis, 29, which reportedly occurred on September 26. According to earlier reports from the National Enquirer, Del Rio was removed from the set after the accusation surfaced. Following an initial investigation lasting a week, he was terminated from his position on October 9, and his character was subsequently written out of the series.
Despite the seriousness of the claims, Del Rio has not faced any criminal charges and has consistently denied the allegations. In a bid to defend himself, he has enlisted Holley, a high-profile attorney known for representing notable celebrities, including Kim Kardashian, Justin Bieber, and Lindsay Lohan.
The fallout from the accusations appears to have created a rift between Del Rio and his fellow cast members. Sources have indicated that he feels isolated, stating, “It really angers him his costars don’t want to hear his side of things. They’ve already convicted him.” Despite this, his wife Katherine has publicly defended him. In response to a social media post by Lewis, wherein she expressed a desire to “move forward in strength,” Katherine took to Instagram to call Lewis “the most disturbing human being I have ever met.”
