In a significant move, Meta has appointed Dina Powell McCormick as its new president and vice chairman. This announcement followed her recent tenure on the company’s board, where she resigned in December after initially joining in April. According to a filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, her new role will place her at the helm of Meta’s strategy and execution as part of the company’s management team.
Mark Zuckerberg, Meta’s CEO, praised Powell McCormick’s extensive experience and global connections, emphasizing that she is well-equipped to navigate Meta’s growth trajectory. “Dina’s experience at the highest levels of global finance, combined with her deep relationships around the world, makes her uniquely suited to help Meta manage this next phase of growth,” he stated.
Powell McCormick’s career spans notable positions in both the private and public sectors. Before joining Meta, she was the deputy national security advisor during the Trump administration and also worked as an advisor under Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice during President George W. Bush’s era. Her extensive professional background includes 16 years in senior leadership roles at Goldman Sachs and a recent executive position at BDT & MSD Partners.
Her appointment reflects a trend at Meta, which has recently recruited multiple former officials from the Trump administration. Earlier this month, the company also announced the hiring of Curtis Joseph Mahoney as its new chief legal officer, who previously served as a deputy U.S. trade representative.
In a show of support for her appointment, former President Donald Trump took to his social media platform, Truth Social, to congratulate Powell McCormick. “Congratulations to Dina Powell McCormick, who has just been named the new president of Meta. A great choice by Mark Z!!! She is a fantastic, and very talented, person, who served the Trump Administration with strength and distinction!” Trump wrote.
As she steps into her new leadership role, Powell McCormick’s expertise in finance and her strategic acumen are expected to play a pivotal role in shaping the future direction of Meta amidst a rapidly evolving technological landscape.
