Dolphins Aim for Sixth Straight Win Against Steelers in Monday Night Showdown

The Miami Dolphins have been on a remarkable unbeaten streak since early November, having secured victories in their last five games, including a decisive win against the formidable Buffalo Bills and an international game. Recently, the Dolphins showcased their physical prowess by dominating the New York Jets in frigid conditions, further establishing their presence as a team that excels in smashmouth football.

As they prepare to face the Pittsburgh Steelers under the bright lights of primetime, Head Coach Mike McDaniel emphasized the importance of a strong preparation week, stating, “We’re going to have to put a good work week together to go battle that team to try to get in the victory column; I know that for sure.” McDaniel, with his previous experience against the Steelers, acknowledged that wins in this league must be earned, not given.

The Steelers, on the other hand, are riding high after a significant 27-22 victory against the Baltimore Ravens, which propelled them to the top of the AFC North. This win could be critical as they seek to maintain control of the division with only four games left in the season.

In preparation for the Dolphins, the Steelers will need to adopt a next-man-up mentality due to injuries affecting their roster. Left tackle Andrus Peat, who was the third player to fill that role this season, exited the recent game and is now replaced by rookie Dylan Cook, facing a challenging matchup against Miami’s formidable outside linebacker Bradley Chubb. Chubb has been a defensive force during the Dolphins’ winning streak, generating 19 pressures, nine hits, and 2.5 sacks.

The Pittsburgh defense is grappling with injuries as well. Star linebacker T.J. Watt has been ruled out for the game, which poses a significant blow to their defensive strategies. Watt leads the Steelers with seven sacks this season. Additionally, two other defensive tackles are on injured reserve, and the statuses of Keanu Benton and Yahya Black, who left the last game with injuries, remain uncertain.

These injuries have hindered the Steelers’ run defense, contributing to struggles against opposing offenses. In their last two games, they conceded 249 rushing yards to the Bills and 217 rushing yards to the Ravens, which highlights the challenges they face against the Dolphins’ potent rushing attack.

Dolphins running back De’Von Achane may also affect the game dynamics as he was limited in practice after sustaining a rib injury in the game against the Jets. Before his exit, Achane showcased impressive performance with 92 rushing yards. His role was partly fulfilled by second-year back Jaylen Wright, who made a significant impact with 107 yards on 24 carries. Coach McDaniel noted Wright’s sharp practices, indicating that his teammates have recognized his readiness and urged for his involvement during games.

Miami currently leads the NFL in rushing yards per game, averaging an impressive 192.3 since their victory over Buffalo in Week 10. This matchup promises to deliver an intense atmosphere reminiscent of classic December football, as both teams contend with frigid temperatures and the drive to secure their places in contention.

A victory for the Dolphins would elevate their record to 7-7, an impressive comeback considering recent struggles, marking only the fifth instance in NFL history where a team has managed to reach a .500 record after a rough start of losing seven out of their first nine games.

Fans are encouraged to check the Injury Report and the team’s social media channels 90 minutes before kickoff to stay informed about player availability. The game will air live on ESPN at 8:15 p.m. ET, also accessible on the Dolphins Radio Network, with additional coverage available on the Game Center.
