Dublin Airport’s Terminal 2 is experiencing ongoing disruptions as a result of a cyber-attack that has impacted check-in and baggage systems for the second consecutive day. The airport confirmed that it is working diligently to assist airlines affected by this Europe-wide technical issue.

Despite the challenges, Dublin Airport anticipates that a full flight schedule will resume, although passengers are strongly encouraged to reach out to their respective airlines for the latest flight updates. Aer Lingus has reported that it will face significant operational challenges on Sunday, leading to multiple flight delays and cancellations. The airline has urged travelers to check in online prior to arriving, promising that further updates will be provided as the situation evolves.

Manual workarounds have been implemented by some airlines to create bag tags and boarding passes. However, these alternative processes are proving time-consuming, prompting airport officials to recommend that passengers allow extra time for check-in and baggage drop-off. A spokesperson from Dublin Airport emphasized the importance of arriving at the airport as planned while preparing for potential delays.

RTX, the parent company of Collins Aerospace, acknowledged the “cyber-related disruption” impacting their systems in select airports. They identified the Muse software, which centralizes check-in desks and boarding gates for use by multiple airlines, as the root cause of the issues. Though the situation is under investigation, the company has yet to reveal specific details about the nature of the cyber-attack or an estimated timeline for resolution.

Adding to the tensions, Terminal 2 was evacuated on Saturday due to a security alert involving a suspicious piece of airline luggage. Authorities received notifications about the item around 11:30 AM local time and took precautionary measures, including involving the Irish army’s explosive disposal team. Fortunately, after thorough investigation, the area was deemed safe, and the evacuation was lifted.

The situation at Dublin Airport continues to develop as airlines and authorities work to restore normal operations in the wake of this technical disruption. Passengers are advised to remain vigilant and informed as they navigate their travel plans amidst these ongoing challenges.
