Hot 97’s popular “Ebro in the Morning” show has reached its conclusion after a successful run that began in 2012. The announcement came on December 12, with co-hosts Ebro Darden, Laura Stylez, and Peter Rosenberg sharing their sentiments through social media posts.
Rosenberg, whose representative confirmed to Billboard that “the show as it stands is in fact over,” hinted at the changes ahead with a video message stating, “change is afoot.” Initially, the trio elicited confusion among fans with ambiguous posts, but it soon became clear that Friday marked Rosenberg’s last morning show appearance.
In a heartfelt tribute, Stylez expressed her gratitude for the journey, recalling the vibrant audience and the legendary figures she had the privilege to work alongside. She mentioned her pride in their collective work and promised fans more content from the trio in the future.
Ebro Darden, who originally spent time at Hot 97 from 2004 to 2007 before returning in 2012 as program director, emphasized the significance of their time on air. He noted the show’s slot, which aired from 5 a.m. to 11 a.m. ET, allowed for deep engagement with listeners and the hip hop culture.
Rosenberg reflected on his nearly two-decade tenure, acknowledging his early days of interviewing hip hop icons and the mistakes he made along the way. He expressed immense gratitude for both the experience and the people he met during his time at Hot 97, thanking those who supported him and the brand.
While the fate of the morning slot remains uncertain, Super Radio Networks reaffirmed its commitment to the Ebro brand in a statement, indicating plans to expand Ebro’s presence across new platforms.
This news comes on the heels of DJ Funk Flex’s earlier announcement regarding his own show on Hot 97, which turned out to be a simple timeslot adjustment rather than an exit. The reshuffle also involved changes to the programming lineup, including DJ Drewski taking over from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. ET, followed by Nessa’s show from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. ET.
As Hot 97 fans absorb the end of an era with “Ebro in the Morning,” the future remains ripe with possibilities, leaving many eager to see what’s next for the beloved hosts.
