The Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA) has announced the launch of a new Crypto and Blockchain Education Program designed to help member firms and their employees better understand the evolving landscape of digital assets. This initiative comprises a series of self-paced online courses, which will be accessible starting in October through FINRA’s Financial Learning Experience platform, as well as an in-person course developed in partnership with Georgetown University’s McDonough School of Business.

The online courses will delve into a variety of topics essential for navigating the complexities of cryptocurrency and blockchain technology. Participants will gain insights into critical areas such as cryptocurrency and blockchain terminology, the mechanics of blockchain operations and on-chain transactions, and the evolution of blockchain technology itself. Furthermore, the curriculum will explore different types of crypto assets and related financial products, as well as provide an overview of the crypto ecosystem and market dynamics.

Additionally, the program emphasizes key considerations for FINRA member firms that engage with crypto assets and blockchain technology, which could affect their operations and compliance obligations. A vital component of the education program also addresses prevalent fraud schemes linked to crypto assets, equipping participants with the knowledge needed to recognize and prevent these malicious activities.

Greg Ruppert, FINRA’s executive vice president of member supervision, expressed enthusiasm about the new program, highlighting its importance in supporting member firms as they adapt to rapidly changing products and technologies. This educational initiative signals FINRA’s commitment to enhancing the understanding and strategic approach of financial firms in relation to cryptocurrencies and blockchain technology.

Those interested in expanding their knowledge in this area can look forward to enrolling in the program when it becomes available.
