In an impressive showcase of financial acumen, eighth-grade student Uwaila Agheyisi from Hillside Innovation Academy has been honored for her outstanding performance in a prestigious statewide program dedicated to teaching investing and economic literacy. Her achievement in the 2026 Stock Market Challenge, organized by the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. – Zeta Nu Lambda Chapter, positions her as one of only seven winners in the competition.
The Stock Market Challenge is recognized as a premier financial literacy initiative aimed at introducing middle and high school students to the world of investing. This year, the program attracted 96 participants from across New Jersey and beyond, all engaged in a virtual experience that spanned four weeks in March. Students were immersed in expert-led sessions that offered insights into managing a simulated investment portfolio valued at $100,000.
Throughout the program, participants received hands-on exposure to essential concepts such as market trends, various investment strategies, and critical financial decision-making skills. Uwaila’s exceptional performance throughout the challenge underscored her deep understanding of the market and her ability to effectively apply what she learned in a competitive environment.
As part of the accolades that come with her recognition, Uwaila will receive $100, which will be invested into a custodial brokerage account. This initiative not only rewards her achievements but also gives her a head start in attaining financial independence and a comprehensive understanding of long-term investment principles.
Leaders of the program emphasize that initiatives like the Stock Market Challenge are crucial for empowering students. By equipping young minds with the necessary tools to make informed financial decisions, these programs play a vital role in preparing them for future success in an increasingly complex economic landscape.
