Huskers Dominate Omaha 87-35 to Improve to 10-0

In an impressive display of offensive firepower, No. 24 Nebraska women’s basketball team defeated Omaha by a commanding score of 87-35 at Pinnacle Bank Arena. The victory marked the Huskers’ 10th consecutive win, tying the third-longest winning streak in the team’s history and continuing a notable scoring streak of 80 or more points for the 10th game in a row.

Callin Hake led the charge for Nebraska, tying her career high with 17 points, including a remarkable performance in the second quarter. The senior guard from Victoria, Minnesota, showcased her shooting skills, sinking four three-pointers and scoring 14 points during the quarter alone. She ended the game shooting 6-of-10 from the field overall, with a stellar 5-of-9 from beyond the arc. Hake also recorded six assists without any turnovers, contributing two steals to Nebraska’s strong overall performance.

The second half saw junior Jessica Petrie stepping up, particularly in the third quarter, where she scored 10 of her 14 total points. The 6-foot-2 forward from Gold Coast, Australia, ignited the team with her offensive rhythm, hitting two three-pointers early in the period while also showcasing her defensive prowess with a pair of blocked shots. Additionally, Petrie grabbed seven rebounds, helping Nebraska outscore Omaha 22-8 during that quarter.

Amiah Hargrove was another key contributor, finishing with 11 points and just missing a double-double with nine rebounds. She also dished out three assists without turning the ball over and snagged two steals, complementing the team’s depth on both ends of the court.

A total of 11 players scored for Nebraska, showcasing a balanced offensive effort. Petra Bozan, Britt Prince, and Logan Nissley each chipped in eight points. The Big Red tied a season high with 13 three-pointers and broke the school record by attempting 40. Overall, Nebraska shot 46.1 percent from the field, making 35 of 76 attempts, while dominating in the rebounding battle with a 41-36 margin. The Huskers forced 31 turnovers while only committing 11, leading to a significant turnover advantage. They also matched their season high with 17 steals and showcased impressive ball movement with 29 assists throughout the game.

Defensively, Nebraska excelled, limiting Omaha to a mere 33.3 percent shooting efficiency from the field, including a dismal 1-of-18 from three-point range. The Huskers’ defensive strategy paid dividends, particularly in the second half, where they held Omaha to just 13 points, five of which came in the final quarter.

The matchup began with Omaha quickly establishing a 10-3 lead within the first few minutes. However, Nebraska responded decisively with a 10-point run, bolstered by contributions from Hargrove and timely three-pointers from Hake and Kennadi Williams. Williams also finished the game with six assists and no turnovers, further enhancing the flow of the offense as she helped secure Nebraska’s first lead at 13-10.

The Huskers advanced their lead to 20-15 by the second quarter and broke into double digits for the first time thanks to a three-pointer from Nissley. Hake’s trio of three-pointers, combined with a traditional three-point play by Eliza Maupin, allowed Nebraska to establish a commanding 20-point lead at 41-21 before heading into halftime.

Looking ahead, Nebraska will continue non-conference play at home with a matchup against Illinois State on Sunday. The game is set for an 11 a.m. tip-off (CT), and tickets are currently available at Huskers.com.
