In the pre-recorded message, the 77-year-old King celebrated what he referred to as a “personal blessing,” attributing his progress to “early diagnosis, effective intervention and adherence to ‘doctor’s orders.’” He highlighted the significant advancements in cancer care in recent years, reflecting on his own journey since he disclosed his diagnosis in February of the previous year, after undergoing a prostate procedure. Since then, he has been following a regimen of regular outpatient treatment.
A palace spokesperson shared insights on Saturday, noting that the response from media outlets worldwide has been met with delight and sensitivity. The spokesperson expressed gratitude for the numerous supportive messages received, particularly those from professionals in the cancer care field and the general public. They reiterated that the King would be encouraged by the outpouring of positivity elicited by his message.
In light of his diagnosis, Charles has taken on the role of patron for Cancer Research UK and has long served as a patron for Macmillan Cancer Support, a position he has maintained for nearly thirty years.
