Michael Saylor, the executive chairman of Strategy, has made headlines this week by entering the Bloomberg Billionaire Index for the first time with an estimated net worth of $7.37 billion. This remarkable financial ascent primarily stems from his company’s extensive Bitcoin holdings, which have positioned it as the largest public holder of the cryptocurrency globally.
Saylor’s fortune has surged by nearly $1 billion since the beginning of 2025, marking a significant 15.8% increase. His wealth is predominantly linked to his equity in Strategy, which accounts for approximately $6.72 billion. In addition, Bloomberg estimates that Saylor holds around $650 million in cash. His recent entry into the list places him at the 491st position among the world’s wealthiest individuals, joining other notable figures from the cryptocurrency sector, including Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong and Binance founder Changpeng “CZ” Zhao.
Strategy has amassed over 659,000 BTC, representing around 3.42% of Bitcoin’s circulating supply, with these holdings valued at nearly $73 billion at current market prices. Despite ongoing scrutiny from critics regarding the implications of such massive Bitcoin purchases, Strategy has asserted that their acquisition strategies are carefully designed to avoid influencing market prices. Shirish Jajodia, the company’s corporate treasurer, emphasized that their buying methods ensure minimal impact on Bitcoin values.
The firm’s stock closed with a modest gain of 2.53% recently, yet it remains down over 12% for the month. Notably, Strategy was excluded from the S&P 500 during a recent reshuffle, despite meeting listing criteria. Analysts speculate that this exclusion may have stemmed from qualitative assessments made by the S&P selection committee, which considers a wider array of factors beyond mere market capitalization and trading volume.
In August alone, Strategy added a total of 7,714 BTC to its portfolio, with new purchases including 4,048 BTC for $449.3 million made just before a recent dip in Bitcoin prices. This new acquisition elevated their total BTC holdings to 636,505. Saylor has consistently framed Bitcoin as “digital gold” and has emphasized the value of transitioning significant portions of Strategy’s balance sheet into cryptocurrency. The funding for these acquisitions has been facilitated through proceeds from four of the company’s at-the-market equity offerings, which Saylor refers to as integral to his firm’s “Bitcoin defense department.”
As the cryptocurrency landscape continues to evolve, all eyes remain on Saylor and Strategy as they navigate the complexities of the market while pressing forward with their aggressive Bitcoin accumulation strategy.
