During a recent appearance on Live with Kelly and Mark, Mila Kunis discussed her children’s latest interests, highlighting a new collaborative activity. The actress revealed that her husband, Ashton Kutcher, has taken on the role of mentor, teaching their daughter, Wyatt, and her friends jiu-jitsu classes specifically focused on self-defense.
Kunis expressed her enthusiasm for the initiative, stating, “My husband started doing jiu-jitsu classes with my daughter and her friends to teach them self-defense.” She noted that the classes not only involve Wyatt, who is 11, but that her son Dimitri, aged 9, also occasionally participates, creating a family bonding experience centered around learning vital life skills.
Since their marriage in 2015, Kunis and Kutcher have built a family, welcoming their first child, Wyatt Isabelle, in October 2014, followed by their second child, Dimitri Portwood, in November 2016. The couple has often shared insights into their parenting journey. In a previous interview with PEOPLE, Kutcher highlighted the importance of fatherhood in his life, declaring, “For me, the No. 1 role I will ever play is father.”
Reflecting on the challenges of parenting during the pandemic, Kunis once shared a practical parenting hack: “We’ve done every craft humanly possible,” she described. One inventive idea was “Happy Trash,” in which the couple would provide their kids with recyclable materials to unleash their creativity by building anything from robots to forts.
Furthermore, Kunis and Kutcher have sought inspiration from classic television to enrich their parenting style. During an interview on Brit + Co founder Brit Morin’s podcast, they talked about incorporating meaningful lessons into their storytelling, echoing the narrative structure of shows like Full House. She recounted how Wyatt regularly requests stories from her parents’ lives, prompting Kutcher to craft new tales that not only entertain but also impart wisdom.
Kunis humorously noted the need for these stories to include a learning aspect, equating their approach to that of the beloved sitcom. In jest, Kutcher playfully referenced Bob Saget’s character from Full House, while Kunis likened him more to John Stamos’ role, showcasing their lighthearted dynamic as parents.
This engaging approach to parenting reflects their commitment to nurturing their children’s growth while also fostering creativity and self-defense skills, all within a loving family environment.
