MoonPay has officially announced the appointment of Caroline Pham as its new chief legal officer, marking a significant move for the company as it navigates the rapidly evolving landscape of digital assets. The announcement came in a press release detailing Pham’s extensive experience and contributions to the regulatory environment surrounding cryptocurrencies.
Pham has played a crucial role at the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) during what has been described as a transformative time for the market. As a commissioner since 2022, she was unanimously elected as acting chairman in January, reflecting her leadership within the agency. Her tenure at the CFTC is characterized by efforts towards modernizing the market, innovating regulations, and shaping policies around digital assets.
In related news, the U.S. Senate is set to vote on the nomination of Michael Selig to take over as chairman of the CFTC. Selig, who currently serves as the chief counsel for the Securities and Exchange Commission’s Crypto Task Force, was nominated by President Donald Trump in April. Pham indicated earlier that she intends to depart from the CFTC following the confirmation of a new chairman.
Expressing her enthusiasm for the transition, Pham posted on X, stating, “I’m looking forward to a successful confirmation of Mike Selig as the [CFTC’s] next chairman and a smooth transition once he is sworn in. The future is bright. Onward and upward.”
At MoonPay, Pham will have a vital role, overseeing all legal and administrative functions, as well as guiding the company’s policy and regulatory strategy in Washington, D.C. MoonPay co-founder and CEO Ivan Soto-Wright praised Pham’s unique blend of regulatory expertise, finance knowledge, and deep understanding of market structures. He emphasized that her leadership is critical for steering MoonPay through its next phase of growth and compliance.
Earlier this year, while still at the CFTC, Pham announced new initiatives aimed at providing regulatory clarity for foreign exchanges and facilitating U.S. market engagement for American companies that had previously exited the crypto trading space. Her strategic vision is expected to play a key role in shaping MoonPay’s operations as it continues to expand within the dynamic digital asset arena.
