On weekday mornings, Nevada Sports Net provides a recap of three significant headlines. Here’s a look at today’s top stories.
First, rumors are circulating about a potential shakeup at CBS Mornings that could affect Nevada alum Nate Burleson. According to a report by The New York Post, Tony Dokoupil, one of the co-hosts alongside Burleson and Gayle King, has been identified as the next anchor for CBS Evening News. This transition may lead to a revamp of the morning show, possibly resulting in changes for both King and Burleson. Burleson has co-hosted CBS Mornings since 2021 and has become a prominent figure within Paramount’s programming, also appearing in shows like The NFL Today and Nickelodeon’s NFL Slimetime. The Wolf Pack Hall of Famer, who enjoyed an NFL career from 2003 to 2013, has two sons currently on the Nevada football team.
In other news, Spanish Springs High alum Carson McCusker has requested and received his release from the Minnesota Twins. The former MLB player, who made his debut last year, is eyeing a move to Asia for the 2026 season. McCusker participated in 16 games in the majors last season, where he struggled at the plate, hitting .172 with a .372 OPS. Prior to his time in the MLB, he played in the minor leagues, amassing a .265 batting average with 55 home runs in 275 games after beginning his career in the independent league, following an undrafted stint at Oklahoma State.
Lastly, Henry Ruggs III, the former first-round draft pick of the Las Vegas Raiders, has been transferred to a medium-security prison in Carson. The Las Vegas Review-Journal reports that Ruggs was moved to the Northern Nevada Correctional Center, where individuals who violate rules in lower custody may face increased security levels. Ruggs had been at a transitional facility for nonviolent offenders since November 2024. In August 2023, he was sentenced to three to ten years in prison for a tragic incident that resulted in the death of Tina Tintor and her dog, after he drove his Corvette at high speeds with a blood-alcohol level significantly above the legal limit. Ruggs, who played 20 games for the Raiders, has the possibility of parole in August 2026.
