COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State women’s golf team celebrated a significant achievement as they secured their first tournament victory of the season at the Inverness Intercollegiate. The Buckeyes showcased a cohesive effort throughout the event, culminating in an impressive final round score of 3-under 281, which was noted as the lowest score in the final round by a margin of eight strokes.
This triumph not only marked an early rebound for the team—coming just in their second event of the fall season—but also highlighted the impressive depth and talent present on the roster. Ohio State had three players finishing in the top 10 and four within the top 15, setting a solid foundation for the remainder of the season.
The team was propelled by the standout performance of their freshman duo, Matilde Santilli and Sophie Eppelstun. Both athletes recorded career-best scores of 69 (-2) in the final round, bringing vital momentum to the Buckeyes’ campaign. Complementing their efforts was Nellie Ong, who also contributed significantly with a consistent score of 70 (-1), further enhancing the team’s collective score. Ong’s performance was particularly notable as she led the entire tournament with an impressive tally of 39 pars over the course of 54 holes.
The scoring was rounded out by Kary Hollenbaugh, who carded a 73 (+2) on the final day, while Mandy Song added a score of 76 (+5) to the team’s total. Additionally, Marina Joyce-Moreno, competing as an individual, concluded her tournament with a score of 75 (+4), ending on a total of 11-over par and tying for 16th place.
This victory marks the Buckeyes’ fourth win in the last two seasons, further solidifying their competitive edge. Following this triumphant event, the team will take a month off before resuming their fall schedule at the Jim West Challenge, to be held at Kissing Tree Golf Club in San Marcos, Texas.
