Ondo Finance has announced a significant milestone in the evolution of its Ondo Global Markets platform by integrating Chainlink (LINK) as its official data oracle. This integration will facilitate on-chain price feeds for Ondo’s portfolio of tokenized U.S. stocks and exchange-traded funds (ETFs), marking a pivotal step towards bridging traditional finance with blockchain technology.
The announcement confirmed that these price feeds are currently operational on Euler, an Ethereum-based decentralized finance (DeFi) lending platform, which is part of Ondo’s Global Markets Alliance. This initiative aims to standardize the infrastructure necessary for tokenized real-world assets (RWAs) and enhance their functionality within the DeFi space.
With this integration, Ondo’s tokenized equities can now function as dynamic financial instruments rather than static investment vehicles. The connection to Chainlink’s robust oracle infrastructure offers institutional-grade, tamper-proof pricing for digital representations of some of the world’s most liquid assets.
The initial roll-out includes tokenized shares of significant ETFs and equities, such as the SPDR S&P 500 ETF (traded under SPYon), the Invesco QQQ ETF (QQQon), and shares of Tesla (TSLAon). As the platform grows, Ondo plans to introduce additional tokenized equities and ETFs to its offerings.
Traditionally, tokenized stocks have been confined to “buy-and-hold” strategies, providing exposure without enabling their use as collateral in DeFi protocols. Nathan Allman, CEO of Ondo Finance, emphasized the critical importance of reliable pricing in decentralized finance. He stated, “By adopting Chainlink, we are making tokenized equities as composable and usable as USDC or ETH. This isn’t just about trading; it’s about collateral.”
The integration allows holders of SPYon, QQQon, and TSLAon to deposit their tokens on Euler to borrow stablecoins, effectively unlocking liquidity from their stock portfolios without the need for a taxable sale. This strategy, traditionally utilized by affluent investors, is now accessible for on-chain investors, democratizing financial opportunities.
However, pricing traditional stocks on a blockchain presents distinct challenges due to the fixed trading hours of U.S. equities. Chainlink’s Tokenized Equity Feeds mitigate these challenges by aggregating data from multiple trading venues to provide constant, up-to-date pricing around the clock. The use of “session-aware smoothing” helps filter out micro-volatility during less liquid hours, preventing unwarranted loan closures.
Importantly, the price feeds also adjust for corporate actions such as dividends or stock splits, ensuring that the token price accurately reflects the total return of the underlying security.
This week marks a significant advancement in the narrative surrounding real-world assets, highlighted by Tether’s initiative to become a major buyer of U.S. Treasuries alongside Ondo’s integration efforts. With more than 200 tokenized assets already in development and recent expansions into the Solana network, Ondo is positioning itself to be a key bridge for traditional equity capital entering the cryptocurrency market. The incorporation of blue-chip stock collateral into the DeFi ecosystem signifies a shift towards a more stable and mature financial foundation.
At present, Chainlink (LINK) is trading at $8.45, experiencing a 1.78% increase over the last 24 hours, reflecting growing interest and engagement within the space.
