A new institutional asset manager, ORQO Group, has officially launched with a robust portfolio of $370 million in assets under management. Based in Abu Dhabi, ORQO Group plans to focus on developing a yield platform specifically for Ripple’s RLUSD stablecoin. This ambitious initiative integrates four entities that blend traditional finance with the burgeoning realm of digital assets. The entities include Mount TFI, a licensed fund manager and private debt specialist based in Poland; Monterra Capital, a multi-strategy digital hedge fund located in Malta; Nextrope, a blockchain engineering studio; and the decentralized finance protocol Soil, which is in compliance with MiCA, the European Union’s regulatory framework for cryptocurrencies.
Having secured licenses in Poland and Malta, ORQO is now in the process of seeking approval from the Financial Services Regulatory Authority at the Abu Dhabi Global Market to broaden its services within the Middle East. This region is increasingly seen as a burgeoning hub for regulated digital asset growth, positioning ORQO to capitalize on emerging opportunities. CEO Nicholas Motz remarked in an interview with CoinDesk, “It’s an opportunity to become a global on-chain asset manager. We have all the pieces: the off-chain asset management, and on-chain, too.”
The establishment of ORQO aligns with a growing trend in the crypto market that focuses on the tokenization of real-world assets (RWAs). This movement aims to bring traditional financial instruments—such as private credit, U.S. Treasuries, and trade finance deals—onto blockchain networks. According to data from rwa.xyz, the RWA market has rapidly gained traction, evolving into a sector worth nearly $30 billion; however, this figure pales in comparison to the expansive $2 trillion private credit market. The potential for growth is substantial, with projections indicating that the tokenized RWA market could soar to $18.9 trillion by 2033, as reported in a collaborative study by Ripple and BCG.
A pivotal component of ORQO’s strategy is the yield platform Soil. This platform is envisioned to link the firm’s access to real-world assets with available crypto capital. By offering returns on stablecoin deposits derived from tokenized private credit, real estate, and hedge fund strategies, Soil seeks to attract a varied clientele. The firm plans to launch several credit pools that will target holders of Ripple’s RLUSD stablecoin in the near future. This initiative will enable institutional treasuries and protocol reserves to earn yields on their investments, further blurring the lines between traditional finance and digital asset ecosystems.
