In an exclusive interview with PEOPLE, Pete Davidson recently opened up about his preparations for fatherhood alongside girlfriend Elsie Hewitt. As the couple eagerly awaits the arrival of their baby, they shared insights into their approach to parenting and their unique take on choosing a name for their child.
Davidson, 32, expressed his excitement to become a father, stating, “We’re just excited to meet this little thing.” While the couple has yet to finalize a name—keeping their options private for now—they are leaning towards a more traditional choice. Reflecting on the naming process, Davidson noted, “For a while, we were thinking about doing that weird Hollywood thing where it’s like a color or something. But I think we’re more into the Staten Island normal. Names like Mikey, Johnny, Tommy, or Amy are missing; I miss that.”
While Davidson aims to maintain a classic first name, he hinted that they might choose something more unconventional for the middle name, stating, “We were thinking the middle name could be a little fun.”
Beyond discussing baby names, Davidson’s preparations have included a creative project in collaboration with eBay. As part of their “Built to Spec” series, he has customized a minivan to suit a dad’s needs, complete with features like a changing station in the trunk, a mini fridge, and even a VHS player for nostalgic movie nights. Additionally, this partnership has resulted in a second minivan being created, which will be auctioned off to benefit Answer the Call, a nonprofit organization that supports families of fallen New York City first responders. eBay is set to match the winning bid up to $50,000, highlighting Davidson’s commitment to giving back.
The couple first publicly confirmed their relationship in March. Hewitt, 29, recalled her certainty about their future as parents from their very first date. “When we went out to dinner for the first time, I was like, ‘Okay, don’t think that I’m crazy, but I just know you’re going to be the father of my children,'” she shared in a campaign for Bumble. Davidson reciprocated her feelings, emphasizing the straightforward nature of their relationship and how they both understood their intentions early on.
As excitement builds around their growing family, Davidson’s delightful balance of humor and sincerity continues to shine through, making it clear that he and Hewitt are focused on building a loving and grounded environment for their impending arrival.
